A little doubt in Bollywood Trivia

So Wiki informs me that Konkona Sen is the daughter of filmmaker Aparna Sen and science writer and journalist Mukul Sharma.

Now my doubt is this: Is this Mukul Sharma the same guy who used to write the column ‘Mindsport’ for the Sunday Times of India?

If this is so… Konkona Sen has a lot to live up to in my eyes.

  1. Shreevatsa says:

As I remember it, yes he is. (This I looked up quite a few years ago, though, when Mukul Sharma was more well-known (to me) than Konkona Sen, so this might be wrong.)

  2. ego says:

    1. Mukul Sharma’s site says that he has a daughter whose names end with an “A” and that she acts in films. http://www.mindsport.org/mukulsharma.html

    2. Female actors with Sharma surname that I can think of: Anushka Sharma, Kim Sharma, Tara Sharma, Dipannita Sharma and Konkona Sen Sharma.

    3. Konkona Sen Sharma’s wiki entry saying that her father is Mukul Sharma, a science writer and a journalist.

Probability appears to be quite high, unless Mukul Sharma’s daughter doesn’t use the “Sharma” surname πŸ™‚

  3. Dipta says:

No more speculations. She is Aparna Sen and Mukul Sharma’s daughter. Her full name is Konkona Sen Sharma.

  4. Shreevatsa says:

Ok, let’s do this right. Here (or here if DH is cooperating) is an article about Konkona ‘not just Sen’ Sen Sharma’s “famous journalist and ‘Mindsport’ columnist father, Mukul Sharma”. Even if the one mention of Mindsport in Deccan Herald cannot be trusted, the rest of the description fits the profile. πŸ™‚

    Interesting
    …and thanks for sharing.

crowdsourcing really is awesome! especially since the crowd consists of esteemed googlers and trivia maniacs like you guys.

  7. Who Else says:

@ Shreevatsa: thanks a ton for the link. Had been hunting around for it for quite sometime now.

  8. DG says:

Did dad Mukul Sharma, Consulting Editor with The Times Of India, New Delhi, dole out any tips for the journalist’s role? “Oh! No. Dad doesn’t do all that,” she says. She had to research the role on her own… visiting newspaper offices, interacting with society journalists to pick up professional nuances and reading up on issues. “Also, since I was working with a veteran ensemble cast β€” Boman Irani, Suhasini Mule, to name a few β€” it was imperative that I prepare myself thoroughly for the role,” she says.

Not only is she his daughter, but there’s also a “CWCR” quiz on TV, on one of the IGNOU/NCERT/UGC channels (Gyan Darshan / Vyas TV), part of some Country-Wide ClassRoom programme, in which she asks the questions. The questions are set by Mukul Sharma, and the email address for the quiz is mindsport@mantraonline.com, so it must be pretty old. Anyway, it’s rather interesting to see a famous Bollywood actress earnestly being a quizmaster, asking questions and telling the participant teams things like “Can you elaborate?” and “Sorry, that’s not the right answer” (usually in that sequence). πŸ™‚

Very interesting responses about Konkona Sen Sharma being/ not being daughter of Mukul Sharma journalist & writer.

Could somebody please speculate on what the present web site of Mukul Sharma could be? Or his email.id?
